Use The Force To Manage Change

LukeSkywalker

Many of us have experienced transformation in one form or another and most have found the experience to be chaotic, messy, exhausting and negative.

To create a better experience for you and your organisation, try Luke Skywalkers’ approach.

Anyone who answered the call to action for transformation is on a heroes journey. The following change cycle can be used to describe the stages:

Unknown-3

Its at the bottom of the wheel that change becomes the hardest,  when the most force is necessary to keep the change cycle moving forward. It’s when you need to ‘Use The Force’, which means:

  1. Have faith: In the same way that chaos theory predicts that order will come from chaos, it’s important to relax and recognise that benevolent forces will come to your aid just when you think all hope is lost. Just as Obe-1 taught our hero Luke how to overcome the worst of odds out in his time of need by focussing and having faith, you too must learn to rise above the stress and tap into your higher order.
  2. Keep healthy: Physical, mental and emotional health is vital to maintain when in the middle of your change cycle. Eating your greens, exercising regularly, keeping alcohol and caffeine to a minimum, sleeping in a regular 8 hour routine and getting out in the fresh air and sunshine should all feature in your weekly routine. Understanding your stress triggers and balancing your mind and emotions with mediation, yoga and other mindfulness practices are also vital instruments to maintaining your force. The 9:1 plan is a great tool to help you get started (coming soon).
  3. Maintain your vision: Establishing a clear vision of success and surrounding your self with SMART ( Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Repeatable, Time-bound) goals from as early on as possible will help get you through the toughest of times.

Its easy to give up when the going gets tough. Its easy to allow negative forces to overwhelm you and encourage you to the Dark Side. However, when you are faced what appears to be a never ending downward spiral of fatigue and frustration, don’t give into fear. Like Luke in his battle against Darth Vadar, keep fighting for the good- the vision of a better world once change is implemented. Believe that your strength, courage and ability will pull you through and show you just what a hero you can be.
